Bimetallic Pins

Combine two specified metals in one insulation pin for the required welding surface and fastening environment.

Bimetallic pins use two joined metal sections within one component. Confirm the material at the welding end, the material along the pin body, the connection geometry and the intended substrate before selecting the dimensions and welding setup.

Diameter
3 mm
Length
30–300 mm

Quotation is based on the confirmed material combination, dimensions, joint construction, substrate, welding requirements and quantity.

Product details

Two metal sections
in one pin.

The product construction should be described by the material and grade of each section, the position and geometry of the joint, and the method used to join the metals. These details affect welding, installation and service performance.

Material sections

Material sections

5052 aluminium head riveted to a copper-plated, galvanized or stainless steel wire.

Weld point detail

Weld point detail

Welded with the same approach as CD weld pins; confirm the weld point for your substrate.

The aluminium head is press-riveted to the wire. Confirm the material combination for your substrate and service environment.

Compatibility

Choosing the metal
for each section.

The welding-end material should be selected for the intended substrate and welding process. The remaining pin section should be selected for the insulation system, retaining component and service environment. The complete metal combination must then be reviewed for joint integrity and environmental compatibility.

What is a bimetallic pin?

An insulation pin with a 5052 aluminium head press-riveted to a steel or stainless steel wire, combining two metals in one component.

Which wire materials are available?

Copper-plated or galvanized steel, SS304, SS316 and SS316L.

What sizes are available?

A 3 mm diameter in total lengths from 30 to 300 mm. Common order sizes are 50 and 70 mm.

How are bimetallic pins welded?

With the same approach as CD weld pins. The IFS-3600 insulation pin welder is confirmed for 3 mm bimetallic pins.

What should I include in an enquiry?

Include the wire material, length, substrate, welding equipment and quantity.
